Being under the usual 5’8″ minimum height was all that was holding my agent back from sending me straight to New York to work, or so she said.
Modeling on the runway wasn’t in my future, but working as a local model over the years, I have heard models secretly confess to some weird diet strategies for losing weight fast. Here are 3 you should skip, and 3 to try:
The Spit Cup-Skip it!
This one model I knew always ordered whatever she wanted to eat. Chocolate cake, double cheeseburger with fries? Yep. She gobbled up junk food all the time. She would chew it up and then… spit it in a cup, believe it or not. I explained to her that not only was this gross, but it could cause some health problems. When your stomach is expecting food because you are chewing, it produces enzymes and acids to break that food down. When nothing arrives, the acids just sit there in your stomach. Over time, you can see how this could cause serious problems. So skip this dumb idea. Try the following weird one instead.
The Mint Leaf Tactic-Try It!
This may seem comical and a bit simple, but it works. When your goal is losing weight fast for an upcoming event, but feeling hunger pains in mid-section makes you want cheese puffs, grab an apple or something healthy to eat instead. If you just can’t shake the junk food daydream, then go brush your teeth. A minty fresh mouth from brushing, or swishing mouthwash for example, can trick your mind into thinking you just ate. Dear Journal-Skip It!
In an effort to drop pounds fast, some models keep detailed records of what they eat. Documenting every sunflower seed, or every air-popped, butter-free kernel of popcorn gets old. Instead, get moving and stay busy enjoying life but grab a little notepad and try the following.
Naughty Confessions-Try It!
Track only the stuff you know you should not be eating if you want to get in shape quickly. Use a small spiral book of index cards or notepad to keep track of only the bad stuff you consume. Healthy foods get the green light, but every time you eat something you know you should avoid, make yourself face that fact in cold, hard print. As with everything, it depends on the person, but this little method is helpful to some. Realizing how many unhealthy choices you’ve made over the course of a week could be helpful in your weight loss planning efforts.
Lettuce Eat Grapes-Skip It!
I’ve heard models discuss diets of eating nothing but lettuce, nothing but grapes, nothing but you name it. The Results of this unhealthy approach was: decreased energy, lack-luster skin and eventually failure. Try a healthier approach like the final point instead.
Eat Colorful Sticks-Try It!
Incorporating a variety of foods in your diet is the smart thing to do. In your fridge, keep a container of celery sticks, sliced red peppers, and other favorite fruits and veggies all ready to eat so when you need something convenient you will have an option that isn’t 300 calories a bite. Don’t think that healthy means bland either, cooking with herbs and seasonings will give you a new appreciation for “healthy food”.
Strange tactics on weight loss, diets and fitness is common in the beauty industry, and other fields where appearance is essential to getting the job. While weird dieting ideas are entertaining, remember to only try those that contribute to your overall good health. After all, if your end goal is to look better, you will want clear skin, healthy energy levels, and shiny hair to go with that hot body and that’s not going to happen from eating junk.
